A Quick Look At Rochester NY

Known primarily for its majestic scenery and stunning natural attractions, Rochester NY is also the location for some of the biggest names in commerce and industry, many of which have offices there. Among the companies that call Rochester NY home are Kodak, Bausch and Lomb, and the Xerox corporation. In addition the city also houses many of its own sports teams, including the Red Wings baseball team, the Americans hockey team, and the Rhinos Soccer Team. On the cultural front, Rochester is also home to a Museum & Science Center–of which the Strasenburg Planetarium is a prominent section–the Susan B. Anthony House, and numerous other museums, art galleries, restaurants and clubs.

Possibly the most famous natural feature of Rochester NY is the world-famous Finger Lakes, which lie just south of the city proper. The area is particularly noteworthy for its many excellent wineries, and it is literally dotted with gorgeous parks, the Letchworth Park and Stony Brook being some of the best examples. Stony Brook is particularly outstanding, offering stunning views of the majestic Genesee River. If you are particularly interested in sampling the city’s wine offerings, the best months to plan your visit is during the fall, from the latter part of September to October specifically. This period is the height of the grape-harvesting season, and many local wineries will gladly show you around and give you a sampling of their wares.

That is not all that Rochester NY has to offer either. About 8 miles to the southeast of the city lies the equally famous harbor to Erie Canal, which is located in Pittsford. Noteworthy for its historical significance, the harbor was one of the most active thoroughfares in the early part of the 19th century before the railroad system was established.

Checking out all the sites of Rochester NY is bound to make you work up an appetite, and the city has several cafes and restaurants that are perfect places to grab a bite to eat. Shopping is another one of the things that the city prides itself on, and you can find everything from high-ticket fashion to bargain items all over the city. If you simply want to take it easy, you can while away the hours sitting on the dock, or take a leisurely spin around the canal on one of the boats that offer tours. This is a perfect chance to relive the city’s glorious history, as it will take you through the routes used by the commercial barges in the early days of Rochester.

On of the best things about Rochester NY is that every time is the best time of the year to visit. Fall is a particularly breathtaking period for the city, and you will be treated to the fabulous display of trees shedding their green plumage for the spectacular fall colors of red, orange, and yellow. With the rest of the year being just as picture perfect, it is hardly surprising that people flock to Rochester NY all year ’round.
